ALCS supports Society of Authors copyright education campaign

Earlier this month the Society of Authors (SoA) launched a campaign to rally the Government for copyright education in schools. They are urging writers to make their views known to the Secretary of State for Education Michael Gove MP who is proposing to remove education about copyright from the National Curriculum.

The phenomenal financial successes of JK Rowling and EL James have been well documented, but their earnings are far from representative of those of the vast majority of writers in the UK today. ALCS's last comprehensive research into writers incomes - What are words worth? was published in 2007. Now ALCS plans to repeat the exercise by commissioning major new research. This autumn we will once again be asking every Member to let us know what they actually earn as a writer.
