A number of functions normally available through the ALCS website and ALCS app are currently unavailable while we update our internal database. They should be back online on 7 October.

Last year, ALCS paid out over £2 million to writers of articles in magazines, journals and newspapers. Make sure you receive your share of any income we've collected this year by checking the criteria below and making your claim for any articles by 30 November 2013. Please note that this deadline falls a month earlier than in previous years.

The phenomenal financial successes of JK Rowling and EL James have been well documented, but their earnings are far from representative of those of the vast majority of writers in the UK today. ALCS's last comprehensive research into writers incomes - What are words worth? was published in 2007. Now ALCS plans to repeat the exercise by commissioning major new research. This autumn we will once again be asking every Member to let us know what they actually earn as a writer.
