Authors Guild loses Google Books appeal

The Authors Guild in the US has lost its appeal to overturn a 2013 judgement which ruled in Google’s favour over its efforts to scan millions of books for an online library. The Authors Guild sued Google in 2005 claiming massive copyright infringement and that it was illegally depriving authors of revenue. Turning down the Authors Guild appeal, Second Circuit judge Pierre Level of the US Court of Appeals said “Google’s unauthorized digitizing of copyright-protected works, creation of a search functionality, and display of snippets from those works are non-infringing fair uses".

Dream Reality Radio Drama: First time writers' work now on air

The British Library has appointed Tom Holland as Chair of the Public Lending Right (PLR) Advisory Committee for the next three years. Current Chair, Tracy Chevalier, will step down on 10th November.
