It is writers, be they novelists, poets, playwrights, script writers, journalists or biographers, who record our world and shape our culture. Without them there would be no content for mass media.”
Tickets for all events go on sale on 7 June 2010. ALCS Members can claim £1 discount on all festival tickets by quoting "ALCS" plus your membership reference number on the Poundarts Booking Office line. ALCS Fridge Magnet Poetry Competition winners announced.
As part of ALCS' sponsorship programme with the CILIP Carnegie & Greenaway Shadowing scheme, and with the aim of encouraging and inspiring creativity among young people, ALCS this year devised a poetry competition for young ‘shadowers’ (children involved in the scheme) to enter.
The competition was judged by children’s writer and former Carnegie winner Mal Peet – who had his work cut out for him with what turned out to be an almost overwhelming response.
The Encouraging Creativity among Young People poetry competition winner was announced last week, with two runners up. Mal also picked out a ‘highly commended’ poem and a ‘special mention’ as the competition was such a close call.
In fact we liked some of the entries so much that, alongside the winners and runners up, we have put some of our favourites on a dedicated page of our website for all to see.
As part of our commitment to fostering an awareness of authors' rights, ALCS has been devising ways to educate people about copyright. Every year we put together copyright education packs for teachers and school children which are designed to give children and teachers practical information about copyright. The CILIP Carnegie and Kate Greenaway Children’s Book awards were held on 24 June 2010 at BAFTA.
