2009 Writers' Guild Awards
The Writers’ Guild presented their 2009 Awards last night in the Guilds’ 50th year. The ceremony took place at the Free Word Centre, recognising talented UK scriptwriters across TV, theatre, film, radio and video games.
Andrew Davies and Sir Terry Pratchett most notably were bestowed with special recognition in their individual fields.
Andrew Davies, best known for his screen adaptation of the 1995 BBC adaptation of Pride and Prejudice as well as Bridget Jones’ Diary won recognition for Lifetime Achievement.
Sir Terry Pratchett, author of the Discworld series was honoured with an award for Outstanding Contribution to Children’s Writing.
There were eleven more winners in other categories including Toby Whithouse for Being Human who took away the award for Best Drama TV series.

- Peter Moffat for Criminal Justice (Best Short Form TV Drama)
- The Coronation Street writers (Best Continuing Drama)
- Andy Hamilton and Guy Jenkin for series 2 of Outnumbered (Best TV Comedy/ Light Entertainment)
- Juliet Gikes Romero for At The Gates of Gaza (Best Theatre Play)
- Brendan Murray for Scarlet Ribbons (Best Theatre Play for Children and Young People)
- Enda Walsh and Steve McQueen for Hungar (Best Feature Film Screenplay)
- Eran Creevy for Shifty (Best Feature Film Screenplay Newcomer)
- Richie Webb, David Quantick and Dave Cohen for 15 Minute Musicals (Best Radio Comedy/Light Entertainment)
- Katie Hilms for The Gunshot Wedding (Best radio Drama)
- Andrew S Walsh for Prince of Persia (Best Videogame Script)
