Costa Book Awards 2010 announced
The five winners will now compete with each other for the overall winning prize of £24,000 which will be announced at the end of the month.
The winners were;
Colm Toibin with novel Brookyn – a story of the life of an Irish woman living a new life in America but feeling the pull of her old life in Ireland.
Christopher Reid with poetry collection A Scattering – a collection of poems dedicated to his late wife.
Raphael Selbourne with first novel Beauty – story of a Bangladeshi woman trying to escape her arranged marriage.
Graham Farmelo’s biography The Strangest Man: The Hidden Life of Paul Dirac, Quantam Genius – an account of the life of the Nobel prize winner.
Patrick Ness with children's book The Ask and the Answer – the second part of the Chaos Walking Trilogy.
Each winner will receive £5,000 each before the overall prize draw takes place on the 26th January for the Book of the Year title.
