New internet piracy law in France
A new internet piracy law has been put into effect this new year in France which could result in persistent offenders appearing in front of a judge.
The new law means that the first offence will result in a warning e-mail, the second a letter and then the third offence by the same offender means they will have to make a court appearance. The judge can either suspend the offenders internet usage or fine them.
President Nicolas Sarkozy is said to support the new law which has been labelled “draconian” by opposition. French senator Michel Thiolliere was confident that the warning messages would work: "After the second message more than 95% will finish with that bad usage."
