AuthorSHARE

HOW AUTHORSHARE WORKS

AuthorSHARE is a new scheme that pays ALCS members royalties on the sale of their used books bought from the online second-hand books retailers – worldofbooks.com and Litalist.

HOW DO ALCS MEMBERS BENEFIT?

If you are a member of ALCS and your books are sold second-hand through World of Books, then you’ll be eligible to receive AuthorSHARE payments. Payments will be made to members twice a year in our bi-annual distributions. The only thing ALCS members need to do to benefit is make sure that you keep your list of works updated in the members’ area and then any royalties collected for you through the AuthorSHARE scheme will be paid to you alongside any other money we have collected for the use of your works. Beneficiaries of estates are not eligible to receive payments under this scheme.

HOW MUCH AM I LIKELY TO RECEIVE?

We do not have any way of determining this before we’ve received the data from the retailers and crunched the numbers just prior to a distribution.  The royalties authors will receive for the resale of their works through the scheme will depend on various factors including the sales price of the title and the number of titles sold. There is a maximum annual payment (so across two distributions) of £1,000 to any one author.

ARE OTHER SECOND-HAND BOOK RETAILERS GOING TO USE THE SCHEME?

We are very hopeful that other online retailers of second-hand books will see the benefit of AuthorSHARE and get involved!

Anything else to note?

These payments will also be subject to the usual ALCS commission deductions and, as on all distribution payments, we operate a minimum payment limit of £10 to UK bank accounts (£50 for non-UK accounts), so if you haven’t hit the minimum payment in this distribution, then it’s likely to be March that you’ll be paid.
