Articles
Claim for all the articles you’ve written in the UK within the last 3 years
Make sure you claim in good time. We pay writers of articles in the March distribution, and we need your claims by 30 November each year to give us time to process them.
What qualifies for payment?
Your articles must be in journals or magazines (print or online) published in the UK since January 2021. You can claim if you’re an individual freelance writer of an article, but not if you’re an editor of journals, magazines or periodicals.
Open access publications
Works published in open access journals are not eligible for payments through the ALCS articles scheme.
You can claim only once for each article
If you claim for the same article in both print and electronic formats, we treat this as one single claim. The fee per article is the same for print and digital publications.
Excluded titles/publishers
A number of publishers that have moved their mandate from the Publishers’ Licensing Services to NLA Media Access have been excluded from the ALCS scheme. A list of these can be accessed here. Members will no longer be able to make claims for titles published by these publishers.
NEWSPAPER SUPPLEMENTS
We are no longer paying claims for articles written in Newspaper Supplements. A list of the titles that are no longer eligible can be found here. For more information about this decision, read our post.
