Take our survey on AI

We are launching a survey for our members to get your views on two potential licensing options for use of your works in Artificial Intelligence (AI) systems.

We know that many writers’ works have already been used to train generative AI systems, without their permission. Unfortunately, we don’t believe this can be ‘undone’ or that the people using your content are about to stop (or be stopped) any time soon.

What ALCS can try to do, is what we have done for the last 47 years – secure compensation for you when your works are used.

The Copyright Licensing Agency (CLA), the company who licence organisations to copy your published works, is in the process of developing two licences which could be sold to organisations, allowing them to use copyrighted works within AI systems and compensating writers for the use of their works.

We believe that this is currently the best way forward to ensure writers are able to retain control and continue to benefit economically from their works. We want to hear from you to better understand your views on the subject and what you are comfortable with.

Before answering the survey, please read our explanations of the two options currently being considered.
