ALCS writes to Chancellor in support of authors and freelancers
ALCS Deputy CEO Barbara Hayes has written to the Chancellor several times this week to express ALCS’ support for authors and freelancers during the COVID-19 outbreak.
The first letter, sent before the Chancellor’s announcement of 26 March 2020, set out the actions ALCS has taken to support authors and freelance workers at this time – including details of the recent ALCS Distribution and our contribution to the Authors’ Emergency Fund – and urged the Government to act accordingly.

We were therefore pleased to see the Chancellor announce measures to support authors and freelance workers who have been affected by the current climate. While these provisions will obviously be welcome, it is important to support all creators at this time and we are aware that there will be some people left with no provision. We hope the Government will seek further measures to support creators in the short term and ensure this support is offered to as wide a group as possible.
