Celebrating copyright

The quizzes are aimed at the participating schools and Shadowing Groups. These are groups of children and young people from schools, libraries and homes who read and discuss the shortlisted works. The winners of the copyright quiz for the Yoto Carnegies will receive £250 and tickets to the awards for their Shadowing Group. The winners of the CLiPPA copyright quiz will receive tickets and travel for their school to attend the awards ceremony.

The Yoto Carnegies, which we have proudly sponsored for 16 consecutive years, are the UK’s longest running children’s book awards, recognising outstanding writing and illustration in books for children and young people. The two prizes, the Medal for Writing and the Medal for Illustration, are judged by a panel of children’s librarians. The Shadow Groups vote to decide the winner of the Shadower’s Choice Medal.

The CLiPPA (Centre for Literacy in Primary Poetry Award) is the UK’s only award solely presented for published poetry for children. Established in 2003, the annual Poetry Award encourages and celebrates outstanding poetry published for children. Children participating in the shadowing scheme can submit a performance of their favourite poem from the competition, with the winner invited to perform at the awards ceremony.

The Yoto Carnegies take place at the Barbican Centre in London on Wednesday 21 June. Read the shortlists for the Medal for Writing and the Medal for Illustration.
