Society of Authors’ grants: applications open
A host of grants from the Society of Authors (SoA) are currently open to applications, including the Authors’ Foundation, K Blundell Trust and the Authors’ Contingency Fund.
Each year the SoA awards over £370,000 in grants through the Authors’ Foundation and K Blundell Trust, supporting writers with works in progress – of fiction, non-fiction or poetry, and in a range of genres and styles – by buying time to write or helping with research costs.
- The current application window closes on 1 February 2021, with grants distributed in May.
- The next application round closes on 1 July 2021, with grants distributed in October.

The SoA’s Authors’ Contingency Fund is also still open for applications. Throughout 2020, a wide range of organisations including ALCS, together with many generous donations from authors and supporters, contributed over £1.7 million to the Fund to enable the SoA to keep supporting authors impacted financially by the coronavirus pandemic.
- Grants are likely to be up to £2,000.
- You do not have to be a member of the SoA to apply.
- The application process for the Authors’ Contingency Fund is competitive and more applications are received than it is possible to support.
- Applications currently cannot be accepted from authors who have already received a grant from the Contingency Funds (including the ‘Authors’ Emergency Fund’) since March 2020.
